The Libertines' Pete Doherty heads to Manchester on the
16th August to play Manchester for the first time with his long
standing side project, Babyshambles.
Doherty has had a crazy 12 months which included; being sacked
from the Libertines, a spell in prison for burgling his bandmates
flat, rejoining the Libertines, 3 spells in rehab and most recently
appearing in court for allegedly possessing an offensive weapon.
Last month however, Doherty was forced out of the Libertines and
told he can rejoin when he cleans up his drug habit. Doherty has
soldiered on regardless and has performed a series of gigs throughout
the country where he has dabbled in a mixture of old and new Libertines
tracks as well as a range of Babyshambles material.
The gig is his first appearance in Manchester since he appeared
with the Libertines at The Academy back in March. This gig at
the 350 capacity Jabez Clegg - just opposite The Academy however,
promises to be a far more intimate affair.
After a couple of other North West shows this year, Doherty himself
asked specifically this time for a gig in Manchester - and guess
who was there to help !!?? - Local promoter's VmanEvents, and
Lupine Promotions from Wigan have teamed up to bring you this
momentous occasion.
The gig comes less than 2 weeks before the release of the Libertines
long awaited second album - the majority of which was written
by Doherty. Whether he will have rejoined the band by the time
of the albums release remains to be seen but Doherty claims to
be awaiting the call from the rest of the band asking him to come
back. "I've got things under control on the drugs front and
I'm confident about the album". What is assured though is
that it will possibly be your only chance to see one of the UK's
most talented, notorious rock stars come to Manchester and play
in such an intimate setting.
Whatsmore, the after-show party will take place in Jabez Clegg's
100 capacity Church Suite, and will feature the debut of Wigan's
Northern Lights clubnight in Manchester.
Fun to be had by all, and not a Milky Bar in sight !!
