West Australian band THE WAIFS are pleased to announce a series
of dates in support of their long anticipated double live album,
‘A Brief History’ which was released on Jarrah Records
through MGM on November 8, 2004. Over their twelve year history,
sister’s Vikki and Donna Simpson and Josh Cunningham have
performed some remarkable shows and the latest album captures
some of their finest live experiences. Rather than being a recording
of the bands most recent or seemingly most glamorous sounding
performance, ‘A Brief History’ is an overview of The
Waifs performances in all manner of venues, all over the map.
Featuring thirty–one tracks in all, the double live album
also features two brand new songs, ‘Papa’ and ‘Willow’
as well as a bonus studio version of the bands most recent single
‘Bridal Train’. The multiple ARIA Award winning bands
last release ‘Up All Night’ achieved double platinum
status and ‘A Brief History’ looks strongly set to
follow.
Last November the band packed their bags and headed back on the
road to the US and headlined shows in such salubrious venues as
New York’s Irving Plaza and San Francisco’s Fillmore
Theatre. The Waifs have now embarked on an international tour
for 2005 and the later part of this year will see the release
of a brand new Waifs studio album.
“There's no danger of mistaking the Waifs' broad Stride
for anything other than Aussie, as the Simpson sisters deliver
their tales of home and heartland - and of missing them - over
the infectious amalgam of country, roots and folk.” Rolling
Stone
“All too often, live albums disappoint, but not so
here. Live is a wonderful collection of Waifs' organic tunes,
and the quality is exceptional. The brilliantly executed songs
are warm, personable and full of energy. It all comes together
to artfully and humbly tell the story of an independent band from
Western Australia who have made good. It's a perfect introduction
for newcomers, and if you're already a fan it'll be like catching
up with an old friend.” Q Magazine
