THE SHORTWAVE SET
Musical Group present Critically Acclaimed Recording of the Basic
Repertoire.
The Debt Collection
Album Release on Independiente on April
18th 2005
Limited Edition 10” 4th April 2005
Step children of South East London, The Shortwave Set herald the
imminent arrival of their debut album, the Victorian Funk masterwork
The Debt Collection, with the release of a highly covetable 10”
only record at the start of April 2005. Featuring album tracks
Is It Any Wonder, Figures of ’62 and In Your Debt, it will
be available via all discerning record stores. It follow the release
of their debut single, Slingshot, a rickety, clumsily cut up and
put back together stroke of genius that inadvertently stumbled
into the world some 18 months ago.
A number of live appearances across the capital were warmly received
around the time of their debut single; performances notable for
the discernible air of menace the girl /boy front pairing exuded
from the stage. To describe is as having the feel of a corrupted
Nancy and Lee would in some regard capture the essence of their
shows. Or perhaps Sonny and Cher after a ruck over who lost the
manual sampler.
The last year or so have seen the trio survive on a diet of Bombay
mix and own brand supermarket lager holed up in a one bedroom
flat, while diligently piecing together their debut long player.
Only now do they emerge, blinking, into the sunlight.
Made from an assortment of Deptford market junk and 50p charity
shop tunes, fed into a dilapidated laptop, what has emerged are
a bunch of uniquely beguiling, off kilter hangover classics. Now
completed The Debt Collection is set to be release on April 18th
2005.
Live dates are currently confirmed to coincide with the album’s
release and will be announced shortly. In the meantime the band’s
10” EP will be made available to the general public on 4th
April.
