Red Star Line @ The 100 Club - 14/04/05
With support from Bugfly and Dirtburg

This was a night with a point, a point that should be proved by Red Star Line. That they have a fantastic debut album and people need to hear it. Well this was their launch night. Was I going to love what they had in store? Well I had to check it out didn’t I?

The night starts of loud, proud and dirty with a storming set from Bugfly. Bugfly are a raw rock band with a lead singer that could definitely stand up against the goddesses of rock Shirley Manson (Garbage), Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeah’s) and Charlotte Hatherley (Ash). They start off the night how it was needed with a smack between the eyes. Great.

Next up are Dirtburg who have the most amazing following and they have all seemed to turn up tonight. The loud hip-hop band gives it to the audience large and the audience love it. They are great and give some funky beats. A great venue for this band because there are so many of them they fill it with a coolness that you don’t necessary think they will have being sandwiched between two rock bands, a breath of fresh air that still rock you.

Well, Red Star Line is why most of us are down at the 100 Club on a ‘school’ night. It’s their album launch and what an album it is. Having had a sneak peek at the album a while back, I know that these guys can deliver. They do not disappoint you if you want it loud, raw and powerful; and live they are even better, and that’s what they do tonight. They have catchy numbers and deliver them with an intensity and mystery that I haven’t seen live in a band for ages. Punching out their tracks such as ‘Commercial Suicide’, ‘Pure’, ‘Katabatic’, ‘Centerville’ and their new track ‘Die Joe Marshall Die You Naughty Man’ (ooer) they give a few people a kick up the backside with how great they are. With a special appearance from Richard Neuberg, lead singer of Viarosa on ‘Dead Man Driving’ put in there for good measure, I definitely think Red Star Line left the 100 Club w ith a few more fans than came in with and hopefully this is the start of a great journey for them. Is the music business so mad to leave these guys on the steps outside? Yep but not for long…….you just wait.

10/10
